What in the world am I supposed to write about “because”?
I’ve been putting off this post for days because…well, because I don’t know what to say about “because.” So, I’m in my bedroom at 8pm on the night that the post is due staring at a blank screen and a blinking cursor all because I’m committed to seeing this challenge through to the end.
Ok, so…what do I think about when I think of “because”?
I mean, I guess I think about the fact that it cannot exist without the presence of something else first. I’m here because of my commitment to the challenge. The lights are on because I paid the electricity bill. My dog peed on the carpet because I didn’t let him outside. I have a headache because of allergies.
Because can’t stand alone. It links two or more things together. Because helps us make sense of choices and consequences, actions and results, cause and effect. It helps us make sense of life.
We wouldn’t understand the circumstances of our lives without its presence. In fact, it’s absence leaves us with unanswered questions.
So…there…I guess that’s something about “because.” I’m gonna stop now because the 5-minute timer says I can.
