“The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” – Jn. 1:5
Several years ago, I sat through The Truth Project, a small group curriculum focused on the discovering the biblical truths found in Scripture. In one of the lessons, Del Tackett talks about how someone had once caught him opening and closing a closet door (I believe) repeatedly while staring at the floor inside the closet. Perplexed, the person asked Del what he was doing to which Del had replied that he was struck with how the light was overtaking the darkness.
Many people think that darkness can overcome light. But, that’s not really true. Darkness only exists when there is no light. However, if light exists, darkness is overcome every time.
Think about that for a minute.
Wherever light is, darkness cannot be. Not entirely anyway. Can there be shadows and even darkness the further you get from the light source? Sure. But you can always see the light. You can see it from far away or very close and darkness can do nothing to change that.
So, take comfort. Whatever darkness you may be experiencing today, know that light will overcome and start to seek out that light. For me, that’s seeking the Lord. I believe He is the only constant, true and safe light source in all of existence. Much like the wind, I can’t see the Lord but I can feel Him and I can see the effects of His presence in my life. And with His presence, comes light.
